Pharmacy Technician Student

Path 1 Current pharmacy assistants
(Not enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited pharmacy technician program)

Path 1 applicants will have until December 31, 2019 to complete registration and licensure requirements.  After the deadline has passed, current assistants wishing to become registered pharmacy technicians will be required to pursue licensure through Path 2.

Apply to NBCP after successfully completing the four bridging modules and the evaluating exam at PEBC. The following are the steps to register in New Brunswick if following Path 1 to licensure:

  1. Register as a pharmacy technician student: Registration package – Pharmacy Technician Student
  2. Once registration is confirmed with the NB College of Pharmacists, send in your Apprenticeship Agreement
  3. The training manual may only be started after the pharmacy technician student receives acknowledgement from the NB College of Pharmacists that their submitted Apprenticeship Agreement form has been approved. PATH 1 APPLICANTS: Pharmacy Technician Assessment (PTA) training manual
  4. Upon completion,submit required appendices from the training manual and an Evidence of Time Service Form
  5. Review the Responsibilities of Preceptors and Students document [LINK]

Path 2 Enrolled in or have graduated from an accredited pharmacy technician program

A minimum of 14 weeks of practical training in New Brunswick is required for licensure as a pharmacy technician to be served as follows:

  • a minimum of 8 weeks of structured practice experience as part of the accredited education program
  • a minimum of 6 weeks practice experience to be served in New Brunswick following graduation which shall include the Structured Practical Evaluation (SPE).

The following are the steps to register in New Brunswick if following Path 2 to licensure:

  1. Register as a pharmacy technician student: Registration package – Pharmacy Technician Student
  2. Once registration is confirmed with the NB College of Pharmacists, send in your Apprenticeship Agreement
  3. The training manual may only be started after the pharmacy technician student receives acknowledgement from the NB College of Pharmacists that their submitted Apprenticeship Agreement form has been approved PATH 2 APPLICANTS: Structured Practical Evaluation (SPE) training manual for Path 2 applicants

COST

There are two types of fees to become a Registered Pharmacy Technician. One-time registration-related fees and annual fees.
